Flash Flood Warning issued September 12 at 11:21PM EDT until September 13 at 1:15AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY The National Weather Service in JACKSON KY has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for… Southeastern Bath County in east central Kentucky… Northwestern Morgan County in southeastern Kentucky… Southeastern Rowan County in east central Kentucky… Southwestern Elliott County in east central Kentucky…
* Until 115 AM EDT.
* At 1120 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include… Morehead, Zag, Wagner, Blairs Mills, Fannin Valley, Elliottville, Yale, Christy, Bangor, Cogswell, Zilpo and Wrigley.
Additional rainfall amounts of another inch or so are possible in the warned area. Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
